we saw the modern version of "Measure for Measure" on Friday night. a little girl on girl kissing, some s and m, and gay stuff, but it was a traditional Shakespearean play, nonetheless. interesting take on morality and it's place in society and how people are hypocrites.

dating trials

I have a friend who just divorced at the age of 46. she is trying online dating and blind dates with friends of friends. watching this is very interesting! today she had a 2nd date with a man and he is now touching her. she is not used to public displays of affection and is quite uncomfortable. he also called her "cutie." she about blew it when he did that! it reminded me that i am quite happy not having to date anymore. dating sucks! i think of my daughters and they have to date to find a man, hopefully they date a few men before finding the one, but i also hope they don't date too long and miss out. quite a dance that we have to go through in life to find someone we like enough to spend time with and the rest of our life as well.

lessons for teens

this past week i have had the sex talk with my 15 yr old daughter. we already had the "mechanics" talk about what all the parts are and how they work. now we had the more detailed talk about relationships and how the parts work during sex. we also talked about how you really dont need a boy to feel good. i downloaded anatomically correct pictures to her laptop and told her they were there if she wanted to see them without me looking over her shoulder. i asked if she knew what an orgasm was. to my surprise she did know. so we talked about that too. it was a good conversation. she didnt seem uncomfortable.

i had the mechanics talk with my 10 yr old daughter as well. not good. she did not want to know about her parts or how they worked. she said when girls at school talk about it she walks away and doesnt want to hear it. i thought she should hear it from me and not the other girls, so i told her. the only part she was interested in was menstruation and how it worked. i was glad she came out of her shell a little to ask those questions. she asked me later again how often you have your period and how you rearrange you life around them.

i talked with my husband about talking with his sons too. he was initially against it. he had talked with them in the past but it was a lot of slang and not positive towards women. this is so common! he agreed eventually that he should teach them what their parts are and the correct names for the male anatomy just based on the fact that they could not talkto a doctor if they had an issue. it was like pulling teeth to get that far! it's amazing to me that my husband was that uncomfortable about sex.

relationships

last night my step son and i created a facebook account for him. he wanted it to play a game on the site. it was really cool cuz after he went home he was immediately online and messing around with his new account. he was instant messaging me about how cool it was and with questions about how to do stuff. i thought it was really nice to have your 13yr old step son instant messaging his step mom. i really value our relationship. he could very easily label me "step mom" and not want anything to do with me. he is just as tall as me now! he is going to be tall like his father.

Busy, Busy

I am currently taking 2 college classes. One is moral philosophy and one is children's literature. I am really enjoying the phl. class because I can argue in the class. I have a great professor. He allows debate and doesn't say much about who is right or wrong. The children's lit class is an adventure. There are 3 adult students and 2 high school students. I didn't need the class, only took it for fun. The instructor is a blast. She is an exciting speaker. I am wondering how I have time to take classes and work and do the mommy thing. I think I am very blessed to have a job that allows me to do other things while working! Like write a blog, hehe.

I am writing a paper about how psychopathic people are treated if they commit crimes versus others who do not, people like Ted Bundy...definitely psychopathic....what do you think?

adventures in hunting

so my husband thought i should try hunting last year and put me in for an elk tag. it's a longshot to get drawn for a tag, but we did! we had a unit 27 elk tag, rifle. so i bought him a winmag 300 for our anniversary. he was so psyched! i bought camo pants and warm underarmor to wear on the hunt. unit 27 is up above alpine and runs south towards safford. almost the whole area is mountainous and has difficult terrain to hike. my step-sons, went along for the adventure. we woke up at 4am and head out to the area we wanted to begin at and waited for sunlight. we hiked several canyons. it had snowed the day before. it was slippery and steep. we never saw an elk. we saw tracks, elk droppings and smelled elk but never saw one. we hiked out of the canyons and by the end of the morning, i couldn't lift my foot over a log. the boys offered to carry my gun but i wouldn't give up.

my husband said that i didn't have to go the next day, but i was determined not to be a wuss about hunting. i spent that evening in a warm tub and getting a rub down on my aching muscles. at 4am the next day i was ready to go. that day we did see a few elk but not bulls, only cow elk. we also tracked a bear for a little bit.

we never saw an elk that i wanted to kill. we did see a few small bulls later in the day. maybe next year..... and yes we did get drawn again!
Our family has a child with Spina Bifida. She was diagnosed at approximately 1 year of age. She has a dimple above her bottom. She has had motor issues but is doing well at this time. She has a tethered spinal cord. She was born this way and has not had surgery yet. We are waiting until she stops making mile stones for her to have the de-tethering surgery. Otherwise she is a completely normal 2 year old. She was just potty trained! We were so excited! She has 3 half brothers and 2 half sisters. We get lots of help from our kids. She has a great vocabulary for her age. We are truely blessed to have her.
